Freedom Dance Cover Girl

Posted on Friday March 23, 2007 by Craig Herron

Edy Bondroff, the artist who helped us organize the gallery show of Edward Hilbert’s artwork at the JCC last year, has just had one of her own works of art featured on the cover of Tradition A Celebration of Jewish Life in Baltimore County. The magazine also contained an excellent article about Edy and showed many more of her paintings.

Edy contributed two wonderful cut paper shadow boxes of color prints of scenes from Freedom Dance. These appeared at both of the Freedom Dance art shows.

You can view Edy’s painting in Maryland at Suburban House Restaurant on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville or contact Edy direct at:

Sound Design at Studio Unknown

Posted on Friday July 1, 2005 by Craig Herron

Spent the morning at Studio Unknown working with Kevin Hill on the sound design for the latest scenes. Studio Unknown is located at Blue Rock Productions, and Kevin has a great Pro Tools sound suite. We spent most of our time today trying to get just the right squeak on the rope of a man hanged during the Hungarian Revolution. We also added ocean and seagull sounds to the animation of the transport ship General LeRoy Eltinge passing by the White Cliffs of Dover. This was kind of a taste of the huge storm at sea to come.

Visit to the National Archives

Posted on Wednesday April 13, 2005 by Craig Herron

Ed Hilbert and I met Steven Fischer at the National Archives near College Park, Maryland where the picture collection is stored. The check-in process is extensive and you must have a picture ID with you in order to get a picture ID from the Archives. You must also declare and list with serial numbers any cameras, computers or scanners you take in. You cannot take the cases, any notebooks, pens, jackets, briefcases anything but what you carry.

They do allow the use of notebook computers and scanners and cameras and provide a nice table with several plugs on the table for your gear.

There is some fantastic stuff there, but it is not easy to find. The staff was helpful and we were able to find some of what we wanted. Unfortunately it was not all copyright free and it was unclear in some cases whether is was or wasn’t. Most of the photos we found seemed to be copyrighted. I think we found around ten that were useful and copyright free.

It is not hard to find, right off of Adelphi Road, off of New Hampshire right inside the DC Beltway. There is a parking lot on the premises.

Meaghan Dunn & Paul Sulsky Join Freedom Dance Crew

Posted on Saturday April 9, 2005 by Craig Herron

Met with two of our artists, Meaghan Dunn and Paul Sulsky, today at BlueRock Productions studio. I introduced them to Ed Hilbert the creator of the Freedom Dance cartoon journal that the documentary is based upon. We also looked in on Kevin Hill at Studio Unknown, which is upstairs in the BlueRock Studio. Kevin is doing sound design for us. Steven and I worked with him for several hours earlier in the week doing sound design for the work-in-progress trailer.

Our thanks to Gregg Landry of Blue Rock Productions and to Thea for helping us out.
